Cannon, "Parrott Rifle", 1/2 inch
$75.00 inc. tax
The Parrott Rifle was a muzzle-loading cannon developed by Robert Parrott during the war. It was easy to produce and supplied in large quantities to the Union Army. The band around the breach was shrunk on during manufacture to help withstand the great pressures during firing. Early models had a nasty habit of exploding, which was traced to faulty ammunition. So tough was this design that one example of a very large Parrott Rifle continued to fire despite missing a third of its barrel.
